Article Insights takes you below the story's surface

Over 8,000 organisations globally rely on an FT Professional Subscription to keep their people informed, and equip them to make decisions using the Financial Times’ trusted intelligence.

Our subscribers need to turn that intelligence into action, and we’re developing the tools to make that happen. Article Insights is the latest exclusive feature for FT Professional subscribers, and provides deeper, more actionable context around FT reporting.

In this post we explore the data and related analysis surfaced by Article Insights, and where this sits as part of the wider Professional toolkit we’re creating for our subscribers.

What is Article Insights?

Article Insights is an in-article feature that offers a broader perspective on the topic you are reading about. Imagine you’ve opened a report about an organisation's new business strategy. With Article Insights, you see a curated set of connected information—including market data, key events, and significant players—all related to the topic of that piece.

This feature is designed to help FT Professional subscribers quickly grasp the bigger picture, and uncover trends surrounding any given issue.

Professional subscribers can access Article Insights through a small modal on the right-hand side of an ft.com article, enabling this extra layer of context to be viewed without disrupting your reading flow.

What information can you find in Article Insights?

Market data and key events timeline

Article Insights offers an interactive timeline of key events, where the top five events related to the article are organised by publication date, with direct links to the original FT coverage.

Each event is also plotted along a market data graph, allowing subscribers to see how the market reacted over time and a useful view of historical patterns that can help inform business or investment decision making.

  • Navigate between 1 month, 3 month, 6 month, and 1 year views.
  • Select key events in the timeline to zoom in and analyse a 30-day snapshot of an equity’s performance.
  • Related equities (those tagged in any of the key events) are displayed, providing a dynamic way to assess price impact.

To my mind, a financial markets professional cannot start their day or do their job, unless they’ve scoured the FT.
